Mary’s Magnificat is a hymn of joy, filled with peace and confidence that God came and visited His people to help them, to heal their wounds, to love them, to be a Good Shepherd to them, and bring them back to wholeness. I encourage you to read the Magnificat that is in the gospel today once again and try to feel that joy, because it is different kind of joy. Mary’s joy comes not from being chosen, not because she won a lottery, not because bought a brand-new house, and not because she got engaged. Those are joyful moments, too. However, we should look for real joy in the presence of our God. We should be thankful and joyful and repeat Mary’s Magnificat because God is with us.
