We read today that: “they brought to Jesus all who were sick with various diseases and racked with pain, those who were possessed, lunatics, and paralytics, and he cured them.” I must admit that when I was younger, I used to think that the church was only for those who are ‘holy’ or ‘perfect’ people. That only those who live an exemplary life can go and receive Jesus in Holy Communion during mass. How wrong I was! Didn’t Jesus say that He came to the sinners, to those of us who struggle with many imperfections? “Those who are well don’t need a physician, but those who are ill do” – Jesus said. And in today’s gospel reading, Jesus proves that once again. Jesus welcomes all of us - “all who are sick with various diseases and racked with pain, those who were possessed, lunatics, and paralytics.” We can’t hide or run away from Jesus and His sacraments just because we think that we are unworthy of being with the Lord. Instead, we must come to Him often and ask for healing and forgiveness.
