Monday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

“While Jesus was speaking, an official came forward, knelt down before him, and said,‘My daughter has just died. But come, lay your hand on her, and she will live.’” An official of the synagogue came to Jesus to ask for help. Perhaps he was desperate, and Jesus was his last option. But what I find very interesting is that this official didn’t care what others might think about him. He didn’t care that unbelievers might laugh at him and say --- you a man of such a high position, a man of power, and you are asking Jesus for help? And Jesus helped him and healed his daughter because that official of the synagogue was humble enough to admit that even he needed to rely on God. We need to pray often for good and holy leaders of our nation, in our church, and in our communities -- leaders who are humble enough to admit that without God, they can do nothing.
