“When Jesus had come into the temple area, the chief priests and the elders of the people approached him as he was teaching and said, ‘By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?’” Reading this today we may wonder - what things? What did Jesus do? Obviously, He didn’t do anything wrong. Jesus only healed the sick, embraced rejected, forgave sinners, taught how to love God and neighbor. Our Lord performed miracles and cast away evil spirits. Jesus showed His love to every human being. However, He still had to face those who didn’t believe, who were envious, who couldn’t accept that He truly is the Son of God, and that whatever He does comes with the authority of God. There are many wonderful people today in our communities that do wonderful things to help others, especially during this season of Christmas. By what authority do they do them? Why do you help others? Because this is what God wants you to do; this is how we express our love for others.
