I always liked what John the Baptist said about Jesus, and we hear it again in the gospel reading today. John said: “He must increase; I must decrease.” Isn’t this supposed to happen with each one of us? We should become more like Christ and less like ourselves. All our religious practices, which include prayers, sacrifices, receiving sacraments, following the commandments should bring us closer to the Lord. More than that, all of them should make us similar to Jesus Christ. If we follow John the Baptist and let Jesus increase, then we are on the right truck.
