Saturday of the First Week of Advent ‘c’

Jesus sent His disciples out with very specific instructions. He told them: “go cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.” They must have received Jesus’ special power since they were able to do all those things, those miracles - to cure the sick and to raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, and drive out the demons. Today we Christians are called Jesus’ disciples, and we are entrusted with the same mission. So, you probably may wonder: why didn’t we receive the same extraordinary power as the first disciples did? We can’t cure the sick, raise the dead, drive out demons. So, what is my mission today? It is still the same mission. And yes, we can’t perform miracles as Jesus did, but we have the power to bring Jesus’s love to others. To those who are sick, to those who are lost, to those who mourn, who are abandon, rejected, forgotten. We can still continue that wonderful mission entrusted to us by the Lord and spread His love and care on to others.
