Saturday of the Twenty Ninth Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

Our God is loving and forgiving, and we know this very well. He even taught us to forgive others in the same way He forgives us - not only seven times but endlessly. However, we can’t use that as an excuse for our sins, faults, and wrongdoing. Yes, God will always forgive you if you ask for His mercy, but we need to cooperate with His grace. We can’t simply say - it is OK to sin, because God will forgive me. This would be the sin of presumption. It is just like the parable in the Gospel today, about the fig tree that didn’t bear any fruits. The owner of the tree decided to cut down the tree. However, his servant asked him for another chance and one more growing season, hoping that the tree eventually would start bearing fruit. We are weak; we do sin. But we must do everything we can to start bearing good fruit in our lives. We can’t simply give up.
