We all need God’s blessing. We usually ask for it before we travel, before a surgery, or before an important exam. We ask for special blessings on various anniversaries and on many other occasions. Today Jesus goes back to Heaven to His Father. He has been preparing His disciples for this moment for a long time. He promised them the gift of the Holy Spirit. He especially promised them that internal peace. And now what does He do? He blesses them. “Then he led them out as far as Bethany, raised his hands, and blessed them. As he blessed them, he parted from them and was taken up to heaven.” Blessing is asking for God’s care and protection. We are blessed at the end of each mass. We need that in order to be successful in continuing Jesus’ mission on this earth.
