Thursday of the 5 week of Easter ‘b’

If you check with the dictionary, the word ‘commandment’ means ‘a divine rule to be observed’. Today Jesus tells us that if we keep His commandments, we will remain in His love. In other words, Jesus will love us if we keep His commandments, but what if we don’t keep them? Would He stop loving us? I always believed that He will never stop loving us, no matter what. And of course, He will! We just need to understand what commandments Jesus wants us to keep. He said before that there are two greatest commandments, one- to love God and second- to love our neighbor. So, let us hear it again: “If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love”. Jesus never said that He would stop loving us if we didn’t keep His commandments, but we will separate ourselves from His love if we refuse to love our God and our neighbor. Simple as that. If we truly love God and another person, then we will always remain in God’s love.
