I think we all know a person who can’t keep a secret. Perhaps you have a family member or a friend that they, when you tell them something and ask, please keep it to yourself, don’t tell anyone, would just go and share it with others. Maybe instead, if you told that person - please go and tell everyone, he or she would just think that if it is not supposed to be kept secret, it’s not worth it to share with others. I am thinking that this might have been Jesus’ strategy. See, immediately after He cleansed that leper, Jesus told him: “See that you tell no one anything.” And what happened? “The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter.” That man became an ‘evangelist’ – he spread the news about Jesus to everyone. Isn’t this our mission also? We are evangelists of Jesus today, but when we hear that we should go and bring others to Jesus, most of are no longer excited about that. So, what if each mass would conclude with the words like - please don’t tell anyone what just happened here. Please don’t tell others that we have Jesus truly present in the Eucharist. Please keep it to yourself, you can’t tell anyone. Maybe then we will be tempted to go and share that ‘secret’ with others…
