Thursday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

Do you remember when Jesus said that if one part of your body causes you to sin, it is better to remove that part of the body, so you can enter the Kingdom of God without sin? Today Jesus gives a proof for His words. When the paralytic man asked Him to heal him, Jesus said to him: “Courage, child, your sins are forgiven.” At first, this is so shocking. Why would Jesus say that? That poor man didn’t ask for forgiveness of sins, but for health of his body. And of course, Jesus restored him to full health too. But by forgiving his sins first, Jesus is showing us that for Him it is far more important to have a healthy soul than a healthy body. In the same way, we sinners need to ask Jesus to heal us, to forgive our sins, and to restore our soul to full health.
