Over the past few days, we have been reading Saint Luke’s version of Jesus’ “Woe to you” rebukes of the scribes, Pharisees and the scholars of the law. And for me, very interesting is the fact that they still are unable to see any problem in themselves, but instead they are getting angry at Jesus who is trying to open their hearts to see that there is something wrong that they need to change and fix. We read that “When Jesus left, the scribes and Pharisees began to act with hostility toward him and to interrogate him about many things, for they were plotting to catch him at something he might say.” Aren’t we like those Pharisees, scribes and the scholars of the law when we react with anger if someone corrects us. Again, Jesus will always speak the truth even if it feels uncomfortable to us; we can either accept it and grow or reject Him.
