Thursday of the Twenty Ninth Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

Jesus said to his disciples: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” Have you ever wondered what Jesus meant by that? Saint John of the Cross explained it very well. St. John said that the fire always purifies and burns all imperfections. For example, when you burn a wooden log in the fire, you can see how that log gets slowly consumed by the fire. The fire burns all the imperfections until the log becomes one with the fire. Jesus came to set the earth on fire, He came to set on fire His disciples and all of us baptized, so we, just like that wooden log, can become one with the lord. All our imperfections of this world will be consumed by the fire of love of Christ, and then we will become one with Him.
