Tuesday of the Twenty Eighth Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

We like it when others notice whenever we’ve bought new clothes, new shoes, or when we’ve lost some weight. That’s when your friend who hasn’t seen you for a long time, now notices the change and says to you - you look so great, so much younger. Perhaps you also change your hairstyle, and you hear from others how much better you look now. It is always nice to hear a good compliment, and it is good for us to tell others a good word. However, Jesus does not look at our external appearance. For Him it is most important how we take care of our souls. We are all different - young and old, we speak different languages, we have different colors of skin, we dress differently, and this is the beauty of this world. But Jesus wants us to think about our soul. Is it clean, is it holy, is it humble and open to welcome God? Today Jesus criticizes the Pharisees telling them that “Oh you Pharisees! Although you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, inside you are filled with plunder and evil.” We must make sure to do everything we can to become ‘clean inside.’
