In today’s gospel, St. John is telling us that Christ came into this world as a light - Christ is the light. This is one of the forgotten reasons why we decorate our homes and churches with different lights that shine in the darkness. But Christ is also born within us, especially when we receive Him in Holy Communion. He comes to us to give us light and to make us shine in this dark world. Christmas is not over; our Christmas continues each day of our lives. We are invited to visit God often, to receive Him as a light, and then to brighten the lives of other people, especially those who are still living in the darkness.
