Twenty Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time ‘b’

During the baptism of an infant, the parents and godparents take the responsibility of bringing up the child in the Catholic faith. That means that they teach that person a sign of the cross, then their first prayers, talk to the child about Jesus, about the gospels. Later at school the child learns more about the sacraments, the commandments and the teachings of our Church. However, in the life of every Christian there must be a personal encounter with the Lord. What that means is that each one of us must develop their own intimate, personal relationship with Christ. So, it is no longer about - what have you learn about God, no longer about what others taught you about faith, but about – who is Christ for you? Do you talk to Him? Do you love Him? Do you rely on Him? Just like in the Gospel reading today, Jesus is more interested in knowing from His disciples ‘who do you say that I am’, instead of hearing what others say about Him. Today He asks you the same question: “But who do you say that I am?”
